Far Away

September 6-12

There's usually a period of let-down and recovery after a big project. It usually lasts a few weeks, or sometimes even a few months. Not this time. Nope. This time I had exactly one week before the next exciting thing came along. And boy, am I excited!

I have been hired by ACC to create the sound design for their next production, a play called Far Away by noted English playwright Caryl Churchill. It's a somewhat surreal play that deals with a world which is at total, global war -- even the animals and the weather have taken sides. In the midst of this chaos and destruction, people live their lives as if it were the most normal thing in the world. (Sort of like real life).

Mr. Ben says I should get a job writing music for the horror film industry since I do 'creepy' so well. All I have to say is: happy people (like myself) don't often get an opportunity to express their dark side. And I love my dark side. We are, like, totally BFF. So I am totally, totally stoked about this opportunity!

Nothing dark about this week's video. Here is a truly gifted guitarist playing one of the world's coolest songs (thank you El J for sending this my way).

OK, this is Round Rock, so maybe it's a road trip. It's so hard to tell anymore what's a road trip and what's not. And why would I include this in the calendar anyway? We're talking medieval and renaissance music here, played by three very fine classical musicians. And no dance floor. But...since you asked so nicely...they'll be performing some music composed by someone who did not live in medieval or renaissance times. That would be your humble servant -- moi. And if I can find myself a bassoon, they may even let me play with them. If you know of a good used bassoon for sale, please let me know (I'm serious. Something else you may not have known about me -- I used to play bassoon.) Anyway, this is where I will be on Friday night. Care to join me?
