Imagine Peace. Imagine Fun. Imagine.

October 11-17

I am having soooooooooooooooooo much fun at the HRC (Harry Ransom Center). They've got an exhibit of Victorian photographs up which are fun to look at. But what's really, Really, REALLY fun is their Victorian style photo studio set up so that you can take pictures of yourself. The whole point of the exhibit is to show how studio photography was a theatrical/performance driven event. So viewers are invited to participate in a little guerilla theater of their own. I have taken a number of friends there this past week, and I've decided to turn it into a full-blown art/science project.

I want to see how many friends I can take there and have photos made with. That's my friend Mike's fingers in the picture above. The other young man is my pal Fadi. And then there's Paula and Charlotte.

Every photograph is made in the same setting with the same lighting conditions, with the same camera. By the end of December when the exhibit closes and I have gathered all my data, I want to study the photos and see what I can learn about (1) myself; (2) my friends and family; (3) how I relate to these people. Are we playful? Are we inhibited? Relaxed? Do we care about how we look? Are we comfortable touching one another? Are we connected to each other or separate from one another? Do we spark one another's imagination or stifle it? Are we trapped in our roles or are we free?

I’m not sure what the results of this little experiment will be, but I know like I know like I know that it’s gonna be fun! All photos will be posted in my myspace and facebook photo albums. If you'd like to be part of the process, let me know!!!!

I'm not going to embed a video this week, mostly because I couldn't find the code for this one. But. If you didn't see the unveiling of the Imagine Peace Tower on Tuesday, you can go here and see an interview with Yoko Ono followed by the lighting of the tower. Peace, love and fun, everybody.

No, this is not the dead ex-governor of Texas. This an Irish band that you will have heard at the Accordion Festival in San Antonio over the weekend. And your only excusable absence from the Accordion Festival is if you go to Louisiana for the Festival Acadiens (both of which you will find in the Road Trip section below).

ROAD TRIPS

San Antonio, TX
Saturday & Sunday, October 13 & 14
International Accordion Festival
San Antonio, TX / La Villita
This is one of the good ones, and definitely worth the trip. To recap Mr. Ben's email: "Have you checked out the Accordion Festival lineup? Pretty amazing! The Polkasonics, Ridgetop Syncopators, and Santiago will play, plus a really great array of other bands that play Argentine chamame, Bulgarian wedding music, N. Italian, Canary Islands, Irish, French Canadian, chicken scratch, Tex-Mex. Plus the disciples of Canray Fontenot and Bois Sec are playing, and there's some crazy band from SF with 4 accordions using effects pedals (plus bass and drums). I wanna hear everybody!" I personally have been wanting to hear chicken scratch (Native American polka assimilation) for years. Definitely! Like, totally, definitely.

Lafayette, LA
Friday - Sunday, October 12-14

Festival Acadiens

This is another one of the good ones.
